April Fool’s Day is happening. So, this weekend – I’m taking a break from blogging about lifestyle, and posting about stuff we all can’t get enough of… Memes.
We’re only officially four months into 2017 but we’ve already had plenty of cool internet sensations dominating our social-media feeds. Here are a few of my own faves. Know that it was very difficult for me to choose a few and not include all of them…
Don’t worry though, you can expect more posts like this throughout the night and tomorrow. Notice, I haven’t put them in a particular order, because I love them all equally.
Roll Safe is an image macro serious featuring a screenshot of actor Kayode Ewumi grinning and pointing to his temple while portraying the character Reece Simpson (a.k.a. “Roll Safe”) in the web series Hood Documentary. The image is often captioned with various jokes mocking poor decision making and failures in critical thinking.
The Blinking Guy
A video from the video game site Giant Bomb. They run a regular series called Unprofessional Fridays, where they stream games and talk about them. The original video sparking the meme is actually more than three years old, and was snagged during a stream of the game Starbound. Fast forward to around the 1 hour, 49 minute mark.
It’s actually not a new image – the two-year-old picture of Meryl Streep is from the SAG Awards 2015, where the actor was innocently shouting her support of Debbie Reynolds. Suddenly the image has entered circulation online once again, and for the past few days the internet has been awash with the Shouting Meryl meme, mostly used to quote classic call-and-response song lyrics.
Salt Bae is a nickname given to Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, who was widely discussed on social media following the circulation of a video in which he flamboyantly sprinkles salt on a carved steak.
The meme shows a GIF of President Trump showing off his signed executive orders for the camera, replaced with a variety of childish drawings.
The imagined drawings so far have featured a dinosaur, a self portrait, a house and a cat.
CeeLo Green Gold
CeeLo Green may have not nabbed gold at the Grammys, but at least he was dressed in gold. His ensemble instantly won the internet.
Another Trump meme is “Tiny Trump” – taking normal photos of Trump (or ones not even involving him) and adding a very small, shrunk version of Trump to the picture. No additional commentary or subtext – just Tiny Trump.
That Michelle Obama Side-Eye:
One of the weirdest (but best) parts of Trump’s inauguration was that moment when Melania handed Michelle Obama a mysterious Tiffany’s box. Michelle’s “Jim-facing” was all of us that day, in more ways than one.
Cash Me Outside, How Bou’ Dah?
Late last year, The Dr. Phil Show unwittingly gave birth to a star, a 13-year-old girl who called an entire studio audience hoes and asked all of them to “catch her outside… how ’bout that?” The aggressive question has attained immortality in the form of a multipurpose comeback.
