Zumba is really fun, I know… I absolutely love it but I struggle to do it at the gym, in a group, because I’ve got two left feet (which probably isn’t something I should be admitting least of all on here) and am not confident with my shape at the moment.
So, rather than go to the gym for Zumba, I’ve retired to my bedroom for “Miumba”! At this point, you’re probably thinking: “what the HECK is Miumba?!”
It’s MY version of Zumba. 😂
Yes, that’s right, I am my own instructor, I compile my own moves (with the little help of Spotify playlist) and there are no right or wrong steps.
Ask me to teach you it step by step though, and, well, I’ll fail. Having said that, I’d like you to know that it’s working for me and you can do it too. All you need is a space, your favourite workout music and a connection between your body and the music. Feel the rhythm, feel the beat and just go with it. Have your own rave!
I start every Miumba session (when I wake up or before sleeping) with Rita Ora’s ‘Hot Right Now’ as a standard. That song really gets me in the mood to groove. Then, I follow it up with ‘Call on Me’ by Eric Prydz, ‘Salute’ by Little Mix, ‘Who Run Da World?’ by Beyoncé, and ‘Candyman’ by Christina, or just shuffle through the playlist until I find an awesome song to jump around my room to. No two sessions are the same with Miumba… Sometimes I even find myself dancing to some Nelly.
The routine changes every time (along with the music) which is the reason why I cannot – as yet – give you a complete breakdown. However, what I do know is that it’s – if I had to define it – a mixture of my idea of street, belly, and drunk mum/grandma dancing, star jumps, squats, and lunges. I also throw in some arm and leg stretches, raises, punches/kicks whilst throwing in a few stuff I’ve seen in old workout videos for good measure. That is literally it.
I started doing Miumba yesterday and woke up today with an aching body. However, I made sure I woke up extra early to do it before work so as to shower and be ready for the rest of the day. It felt so good! Normally, I wouldn’t work out if my muscles ache from the night before, but today I felt spurred on.
Another thing, I’m thinking of cancelling my gym membership and doing this for a month to see how I go… I already – in the space of a day – feel like my muscles are a tad tighter and skin’s a little firmer. The relationship between the gym and me is really hate-hate these days… I mean, I have to go to it in order to see results that I can see for FREE if I do my own thing or watch a YouTube video and copy what I see. It’s pointless. I’m an extreme mover. What I mean is, when I move, I move relentlessly and vigorously that I’m probably losing more calories than I think I am…
I’m contemplating purchasing a fitness power plate and just doing my own thing at home. It’s so much easier knowing I can do it in the comfort of my own home really early in the morning and/or late at night than having to go gym when I’m at my least motivated. I also don’t have to be self-conscious when showering or waiting around for one to become vacant. I don’t like to sweat full-stop, let alone walk home sweating! I’d be mortified. Besides, if you need any more reasons – I genuinely am too busy to keep up with gym attendance. I’m not even pretending here… I’ve got my blog, my social life, my job, my hobbies, my family… It’s silly for me to pay for something I don’t use often.
If I see results after a few months of Miumba, I promise to share my “routines” with you on here and YouTube. The reason I haven’t started vlogging yet is because I’m not confident to do so yet. However, although I feel this way about myself, I don’t want you girls to think or behave like me. Don’t EVER hide your true self and your true you. If there’s one thing I hate about myself, it’s that. I hide my true self at times. I wish I didn’t do it. It’s a habit I want to break ASAP.
Remember, we need to be confident in our own skin and body in order to be loved by others. Let’s unite and let’s show everyone how beautiful we are, the Sisterhood. 👯
