Mint Julius

Chapped lips aren’t and never will be the norm. Us being in the early Winter season doesn’t help… But, we can do something about it. There are plenty of lip scrubs (and petroleum jellies) that can help get rid of dead skin on and/or around the lip.

My favourite has to Lush’s Mint Julips. It’s basically granulated sugar mixed with Jojoba and Peppermint oils (allegedly has chocolate in it too although I can’t taste it). It’s actually divine. I apply it onto my lips and straight away can feel that they’re moisturised. I must admit that it’s very hard not to lick my lips afterwards as the formula tastes like pepperminty sugar. 😋

A gentle lip scrub with more than a hint of mint humbug about it. Turn chapped lips into mint-choc chip lips: warming peppermint and sweet vanilla combine with real sugar crystals give your lips (and tastebuds) a service, leaving them primed for smooth lipstick application. As soon as you gently rub Mint Julips on your lips, you’ll feel its invigorating peppermint oil tingling away while the sugar crystals buff away any flaky skin.

The last and only time I’d previously bought a lip scrub from Lush was when I purchased Bubblegum. I liked it to begin with until the taste started making me feel ill. I don’t know what it was, I just found it too sweet in the end. Mind you, I wasn’t overly keen on it from the off…

This one, on the other hand, is very subtle but has a nice flavour and I can’t see myself getting sick of it.

I tried Popcorn in store and it wasn’t to my taste. The Sugar Plum Fairy one (special Christmas edition) smells and tastes delicious too. I recommend it. But, for everyday use (all year/seasons round) you can’t go wrong with Mint Julips. Also, who doesn’t want their mouth/lips/breath to smell like peppermint?

Do I know where the name ‘Mint Julips’ came from? No, I do not. I’m presuming it has something to do with Tulips or just – lips? Ju might be the person who came up with its nickname…

I can imagine Julie walking into Lush HQ. “Hey, guys! Great idea! Colgate, Oral B and Sensodyne are RAKING IT IN with their dentistry franchise. So, plan is – we create a lip scrub using some leftover sugar and essential oils and sell it for less than a tenner. Our customers’ chapped lips? A thing of the past. Our food, bills and luxuries? Paid for!” Win-win situ if you ask me…

Then her boss is like: “you know what, Julie? That’s a great idea! Let’s name it after you and those well-moisturised lips of yours which you used to utter that bright idea from.” Finito.
