Real Issues That Affect Us

Santa ain’t the only one who loves a list…

Do you girls/guys have a cosmetics/skincare shopping list longer than any shopping list you ever had as a child?

I remember writing lists for ideal Christmas presents but it was NEVER as long as the list of makeup products I need to buy!

The difference between Christmas presents and your OWN presents is – wait for it – one’s bought for you by your loving parents and the other one is … Well, you’re on your own. Not that I’m complaining, I can’t stand not being able to earn my own things… The point of this post is simply for awareness into adult life and the stresses that come with it!

When we’re young lists are SO MUCH shorter than they are when we adult, aren’t they? But, at that point in time we think they’re HUGE! It makes sense though ’cause all we really had to think about was our fave ice cream flavours!

Bills, food, luxuries, holidays, car/transport… All lists for adults. I love a good list, me! I couldn’t survive without them.

Anyway, yeah, what’s on your beauty/handsome shopping list? Did I mention that I’m sure you looked nice today? TOO PIFF to light up a SPLIFF, I hope.

Say NO to cigarettes or try to quit if you can’t,  they’re bad for you.

Still, you’re PIFF!

If there was ever a story to this post, it’s ended, happily. Yeah, TTYL. Lovage.

I have been suffering with a bad case of insomnia, not helped by the imminent (albeit a few months off) birth of #AprilTheGiraffe’s young…

According to research, labour for giraffes lasts up to 7 days. But, April’s just on her 5th now. However, she’s showing signs that it’s coming even though she’s not entered the “active labour” stage. I’ve watched this for two nights straight, and believe that I could become a Giraffe midwife. I may not have the skills and qualifications, but I definitely have the experience of watching it. If there’s hope for Fartface across the pond, then there’s hope for me!

Anyway, this blog isn’t about #AprilTheGiraffe, although – it ruddy well should be! You can catch the LIVE feed on Facebook or YouTube, if you’d like to join me as I live life in the fast (albeit at snail’s pace) lane!

Conversations are going to be hilarious on Monday! “So, Miamii, how was your weekend? What did you do?” “Well, I watched April the Giraffe in New York give birth!” I’ll let you know what happens at my appraisal, don’t worry.

Anyway, so I’m currently suffering from sleep deprivation and insomnia. Having said that, seeing as it’s not the first time I’ve suffered with it, I’ve come up with a few tried (tired) and tested tricks to combat this.

1) drink Horlicks, Ovaltine, or a settling relaxing tea before kipping down for the night.

2) have a bath with relaxing oils and salts.

3) refrain from using your phone or any electronic devices a few hours earlier. The blue or white light keep us up, #fact!

4) listen to a settling podcast or playlist on Spotify. This’ll be sure to send you to the land of Z(ebras), forget April the Giraffe!

5) set an alarm for the next day, even if you’re not going anywhere (on a weekend) – let it wake you up even earlier. Your body will naturally start waking up earlier.

6) go to your room and get in bed earlier than usual, wear a sleep mask (covering your eyes), put some earplugs in and relax.

7) lead an active lifestyle. If you’re off work, go to the gym, work-out and do something productive/active, it’ll tire you out.

8) if you have a problem with racing thoughts, do some mindfulness. Let your mind settle. Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth – focusing on your breathing and nothing else. Count your breaths. That’ll help you fall asleep.

If you follow these steps, you’re bound to fall asleep and enter a deep dream state, naturally.

Also, it’s not necessarily a bad thing if you can’t get to sleep at night… An Old Wives Tale suggests that we’re awake at night because we’re in someone else’s dreams… 😘

Hi guys and dolls,

I’ll be taking part in British Heart Foundation’s DeChox, this March.

img_4423

It’s a cause that is extremely close to my heart. When I was born, I was born with an open valve, and had to have an operation to correct this. It caused me a lot of problems when I was an infant, and up until I was around 14 years old.

img_4427

I am giving up chocolate because I want to raise money for research into heart disease, and to hopefully prevent others from going through it and/or similar complications.

If you can help me by donating, I’d very much appreciate the smallest of offers. You’ll be helping a great cause.

Hey guys and dolls,

I blogged sometime last week about the importance of stretching properly, and I’d like to update you on the situ (not that anyone really should know this). I just thought that if I write this, someone, somewhere, may be inspired to stretch appropriately and take extra caution when exercising.

So, after weeks of working out once or twice a day before/after work, the rigorous exercise took its toll on my body, and affected my knee in a way that I didn’t comprehend.

Obviously, when you’re in the middle of a routine or a workout, you don’t stop to think of what your muscles are doing, you don’t really realise the damage you’re causing until after you’ve caused it. In my case, a week or so…

It’s weird, because I explained in my previous post (regarding muscles, link above) – I had pulled the muscle that connects my pelvis with my thigh. This means that I was already too busy and in too much pain resting to notice my knee swelling like a baseball! 😩

Then, it was when I tried to walk on it, after three or four days in bed resting my pulled muscle, that I realised something was up… I literally could not walk. My knee weighed an absolute tonne. Luckily though, I wasn’t feeling pain, it was just a really heavy and stiff feeling that wasn’t normal or natural.

I thought it was nothing, tried limping around, and taking no notice because – as I said – I thought it was due to my joints getting stiff from being bedbound. However, it all got too much when I was rushed to hospital and was told that I had a torn cartilage.

The annoying thing was that although an X Ray was done, they couldn’t see what the problem actually was, and they were so busy in A&E that they couldn’t give me a full check-up. Instead, they told me it could be a suspected cartilage issue but asked me to go to a GP surgery the next day just to be sure.

When I got there, the Dr. was very strange, not gonna lie… He started telling me things like: “I’m not a betting man, but I’d put money that you’ve done (insert diagnosis here) to it…” and “look, I’m just one doctor in a sea of them, I can’t tell you it’s 100% (this)” – well, sorry, Doc., but isn’t that your job? 😂😂😂  Am I going to a fortune teller, a psychic or a GP??? The General Practitioner’s job is to diagnose, right? I’m not expecting them to pluck things out of thin air… If I wanted that, I’d have Googled my symptoms (which I had done, and I recommend against it) or picked up a tarot card!

Anyway, as you can see/read, the Dr. was about as much help as Google because he told me it could be a “ruptured tendon” which is a hockey or skiing-related injury, and one whitch may need an operation! 😫

On a scale of “jheeze Louise!” and “is this guy having a Giraffe?!”, I was somewhere between singing “I have come, to the End of the Road…” by BoyzIIMen and screaming “I’ll never so much as utter the word Miumba again!”

What I also found strange about the doctor I was seen by, he went on and on about how much he hates Zumba yet I somehow inspired him to try it for himself at home… How does that work? …

Sometimes in life, I worry about what signals my aura is give off… How can I attract weirdos like this Doctor but repel normal, nice people at the best of times (slight exaggeration)? 😂

Righto, I’m back to square one, where I have no idea what is going on with my leg. Still working from home. Still in slight pain when moving around (heaviness of the muscle weighing my leg down more than anything) and I’m still bedbound somewhat – with noticeable swelling, although it has gone down a little bit.

I cannot wait to be back on my feet again! I’ve learned not to take my knee (or anything) for granted.

I really hope this is a lesson to you. Don’t ever exercise too hard or stretch too far. Trust me, it can do damage! Another lesson, don’t listen to  creepy doctors, you’ll end up suffering from cardiac issues too. 😫
